The Emergence of the State of Azerbaijan and the Issue of the Azerbaijanis’ Ethnogenesis

The book The Emergence of the State of Azerbaijan and the Issue of the Azerbaijanis’ Ethnogenesis by historian and Oriental studies scholar Anush Harutyunyan, PhD in History, has been published.

The monograph is dedicated to the emergence of the Azerbaijani state and the formation of the Azerbaijani nation. The study examines the processes that began among the Turkic-speaking Muslim population following the establishment of Russian rule in the early 19th century, the circumstances and conditions of the existence of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (1918–1920), as well as issues related to the developments that started with the Sovietization of Azerbaijan.

The monograph includes an appendix with newly discovered archival documents, providing an opportunity to shed new light on intra-Azerbaijani developments during the Soviet period.

This is the first study of its kind in Armenian academia dedicated to the history of the Azerbaijani state. The book was published with the support of the Geghard Scientific Analytical Foundation.

The book presentation will take place on March 6 at 14:00 in the Round Hall of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (M. Baghramyan Ave. 24, Yerevan).
