The presentation of the bilingual book A Cartographic Examination of “Historical” Maps in the National Atlas of Azerbaijan, 2014 and the Invented Terminology of “Western Azerbaijan” by geographer, cartographer, Rouben Galichian took place at the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (NAS RA). The book was published with the financial support of the Geghard Scientific and Analytical Foundation.
The presentation at the National Academy of Sciences was attended by the author of the book, Rouben Galichian, the director of the "Geghard" Foundation, Robert Ghazaryan, the director of the Institute of History of the NAS RA, Ashot Melkonyan, Doctor of Philological Sciences Hrach Martirosyan, Doctor of Historical Sciences and archaeologist Hamlet Petrosyan, Member of the National Assembly Vilen Gabrielyan, representatives of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the office of Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, as well as other prominent scholars.
In the opening speech, Robert Ghazaryan, Director of the Geghard Scientific and Analytical Foundation, emphasized, "We have an important book published. The Geghard Foundation conducts daily work in various languages to counter Azerbaijani falsifications.
Ashot Melkonyan, Director of the Institute of History and editor of the book, spoke about the anti-scientific theses disseminated by the Azerbaijanis. He reminded that the foundation of Azerbaijani falsifications was laid by Ziya Bunyatov.
Archaeologist Hamlet Petrosyan noted that the publication of the book is a very important event, and that Galchyan is not only a scientist, but also a great son of his people.
Rouben Galichian presented the contents of the book: the book consists of two articles related to the cartographic falsifications of Azerbaijan. The first article discusses the falsified maps of foreign cartographers in the National Atlas of Azerbaijan 2014, along with a study of the originals of these maps. The second article is dedicated to exposing the Azerbaijani falsification that presents the territory of the Republic of Armenia as "Western Azerbaijan".
