What did Netanyahu do that Aliyev did not?

Currently, the attention of the international community and the media is focused on the ongoing war in Gaza. Contrary to that, the events in Artsakh in 2020-2023, the depopulation of Artsakh as a result of Azerbaijan's military operation in September 2023 unfairly received less attention.

The war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza has been going on for eight months, as a result of which the Gaza Strip has been almost completely destroyed, and the number of victims, including civilians, has reached several tens of thousands.

The famous American political scientist John Mearsheimer stated in one of his last interviews that Israel wants to solve the problem by making the Gaza Strip completely unsuitable for habitation.

Israel's actions are criticized not only by opponents, neutral countries, but also by allies, including the United States, although Washington continues to support Israel.

A few days ago, Karim Khan, a prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, requesting an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Galant and three leaders of Hamas, who are accused of war crimes. Karim Khan emphasized that Israel committed crimes including murder, starvation of civilians, extermination, sufferings, etc.

Ilham Aliyev and Azerbaijani military commanders employed similar criminal actions in Artsakh. From December 2022 to September 2023, Azerbaijan imposed a siege and gradually tightened the blockade around Artsakh attempting to starve the population.

A few days before Karim Khan's decision, the former chief prosecutor of the ICC, Luis Moreno Ocampo, published an article on the Politico.eu, stating that the ICC should take action against Aliyev regarding his genocidal actions against Armenians. In his article, Ocampo presented in detail the criminal actions of the Azerbaijani regime. He reminds that Azerbaijan has violated a number of articles of the Genocide Convention. For example, he intentionally created conditions for the physical destruction of citizens, harming their mental health, initiated military attacks and killed ethnic Armenian citizens who did not want or did not manage to leave.

During the blockade, the International Court of Justice, many international organizations and states called and urged Azerbaijan to stop the blockade, which contradicts the norms of international law. Ilham Aliyev, however, ignored and, moreover, has not been subject to any sanctions to date.

Is it possible that this circumstance inspired Netanyahu?

According to Western media, the International Criminal Court has been repeatedly criticized (also by a number of Israeli human rights organizations) for carrying out selective proceedings. Justice should not be carried out selectively. The actions of Azerbaijan and its leader should become the subject of international investigation. Is there at least one thing that Netanyahu has done, but Aliyev has not?
