An international conference entitled “1700 Years of Christian Georgia” was held at Shota Rustaveli Batumi State University, bringing together around 40 participants from scientific and educational institutions in Georgia, Armenia, Romania, and Ukraine.

Gor Margaryan, an analyst at the Geghard Foundation, delivered welcoming remarks at the opening of the conference. Highlighting the significance of Christianity in the historical trajectories of Armenia and Georgia, the Foundation’s analyst emphasized the importance of such academic events in fostering scientific cooperation between the two countries and deepening mutual understanding.

The presentations delivered by Armenian participants focused on various aspects of the history of Armenia and Georgia, as well as the cultural ties between the two peoples. They generated considerable interest among Georgian scholars and other conference participants.

The key topics discussed included the role of Christianity in cultural diplomacy and strengthening Armenian-Georgian relations; issues concerning the ownership of monastic lands by the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia; the impact of 19th-century imperial policies on the two churches; and a comparative analysis of the Armenian- and Georgian-language manuscript heritage.

The conference provided a platform for scholarly discussion of shared historical processes, religious heritage, and cultural ties between Armenia and Georgia, while also fostering professional connections among researchers from the two countries.
