The “Geghard” Scientific and Analytical Foundation strongly condemns the promotion of the fabricated “Western Azerbaijan” thesis by the Azerbaijani authorities, and in particular their efforts to disseminate it abroad.
Azerbaijan has once again intensified its exploitation and dissemination of the false “Western Azerbaijan” thesis abroad.
Yet another such event has taken place in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden: the launch of the book “Yerevan – the Homeland Living in My Heart” by Zarifa Hagverdiyeva, a researcher at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. The event was organised by the “Sweden–Azerbaijan Union” organisation with the support of the State Committee on Work with the Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Kingdom of Sweden. The involvement of these bodies attests to the direct engagement of the Azerbaijani authorities in spreading the “Western Azerbaijan” fabrication.
The head of the organisation, Sevda Dadashova, stressed that the launch of the new book is an important cultural event for preserving national memory and historical “truths and love for the homeland․”
We urge Sevda Dadashova to present the genuine historical “truths”: Yerevan has never at any time been a homeland for Azerbaijanis, and it never can be.
We likewise urge the author, Zarifa Hagverdiyeva — contrary to her own statement that “the book aims to contribute to preserving national memory and to passing historical realities on to future generations” — to take up the search for the actual historical realities. We state with confidence that, were they to engage in impartial historical scholarship, neither Zarifa Hagverdiyeva nor the other mouthpieces of Azerbaijani propaganda would publish such historiographical caricatures again.
One of the troubling aspects of the event is the considerable effort Azerbaijanis invest in drawing representatives of Turkic-speaking countries, including those of Central Asia, into their propaganda events. Members of Kazakh, Uzbek, Turkmen and Uyghur diaspora organisations took part in the event, as did representatives of the Turkish community.
We call on the Central Asian countries that maintain close historical ties with the Republic of Armenia and the Armenian people, and on their diplomatic missions, to protect their citizens from falling victim to the Azerbaijani propaganda machine.
The “Geghard” Scientific and Analytical Foundation urges international organisations, foreign state institutions and diplomatic missions, and partners in the academic and educational sphere, to refrain from contributing in any way to the expansionist policy of the Aliyev regime.
