Under the sponsorship of the Azerbaijani authorities, the "Western Azerbaijan" community organized an anti-Armenian conference in Baku today, attended by representatives from over 25 diplomatic missions accredited in Azerbaijan and more than 100 participants from various countries, including Turkey, the USA, the UK, Germany, Italy, Belgium, and France. Among the guests was Turkey's former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mevlyut Chavushoglu.
During the conference, a message from Ilham Aliyev, marked by belligerence and territorial claims, was read, in which Aliyev once again referred to the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia as "Western Azerbaijan." In his message, the leader of Azerbaijan stated that "Azerbaijanis living in Armenia were subjected to ethnic cleansing and were gradually forcibly expelled from their historical homeland" and that the activities of the "Western Azerbaijan" community are solely aimed at "ensuring the return of displaced Azerbaijanis to their ancestral lands under peaceful and safe conditions."
According to Azerbaijan’s president, the only Azerbaijani historical and cultural monument preserved in the territory of Armenia is the Blue Mosque, “whose original architectural style, was allegedly intentionally altered by Armenia.” Aliyev is likely alluding to well-documented articles and studies that provide evidence proving the mosque’s Iranian origins.
The “Gegard” Foundation recently wrote about the fabricated narrative of “Western Azerbaijan,” emphasizing that referring to the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia as Azerbaijan’s “historical homeland” and assigning false names to its administrative divisions have no connection to historical reality. The Foundation stated that such actions are nothing more than a threat to territorial integrity.
