Azerbaijanis claim that Mkhitar Gosh is Caucasian Albanian, but the reality is different

The 13th-century historian Kirakos Gandzaketsi, in one of the chapters (13) of his "History of the Armenians," titled "Vardapet Mxitar, where he was from and what sort of man he was," presents Mkhitar Gosh as "renowned and very learned man was from the city of Gandzak, the son of Christian parents who had given him an education in Scripture..."

Among the numerous works of Mkitar Gosh (1120-1213), the most notable are the book "List of Caucasian Albania Catholicoi," which is the history of Caucasian Albania in the 11th and 12th centuries, and the secular Lawcode, "Datastanagirk" (1184).

Azerbaijani historians present Mkhitar Gosh as an Albanian born in Gandzak, and call his work "Datastanagirk," claiming that the Armenians changed the title. With a little more attention, the Azerbaijanis could easily see the title of Chapter 1 of the "Introduction" section of the law book: "In which is found a reply to those who slander us that there is no code in Armenia." With this fact, M. Gosh confirms his nationality as Armenian, not Caucasian Albanian.

Could the founder of the Armenian Nor Getik monastery imagine that one day he would deserve the attention and sympathy of the "historians" of the newly formed Azerbaijani state?
