The fact that the so-called concepts of Western Azerbaijan and Western Zangezur are state-sponsored and directly managed by the Aliyev regime is also confirmed by the presentation of the monograph "Zangezur: From the Distant Past up to Now." In his opening speech, the head of the so-called Western Azerbaijan Community, Aziz Alakbarli, emphasized that Ilham Aliyev set important tasks for them during his visit to the community. One of these tasks was "to reveal the facts about Western Zangezur, update the books, and introduce this community to the world”.
The author of the book is Musa Urud, chairman of the Labor and Social Policy Committee of the Parliament of Azerbaijan. In 2005, the same author published the book "Zangezur" in Azerbaijani.
It should be noted that the publication and distribution of books with anti-Armenian content in other languages (mainly Russian, English, and French) are part of Azerbaijan's policy. "The presentation of the Russian-language version of this book should be considered as a continuation of the task set by our head of state," said A. Alakbarli.
The book is another pseudo-historical example from Azerbaijan, where rare archival materials "taken from historical maps and foreign sources" are presented about Zangezur.
The monograph supposedly analyzes in detail the origin of the word "Zangezur" (claiming it originated from the name of the Zangu tribe), the ancient and rich history of the region (alleging the region is named after the Zangezur River), its geography, socio-political and socio-economic life, and “the policy of deportation, genocide, and ethnic cleansing carried out against the Azerbaijani people in Zangezur from the beginning of the 19th century”.
In the case of Azerbaijani "scientists," it is a common phenomenon to present forgeries as "encyclopedic publications," as noted by academician Arif Hashimov in his speech.
The fact that Zangezur is a part of the Syunik of Greater Armenia has been testified by many historians. Stepanos Orbelyan, a 13th-century historian from Syunik, presenting the etymology of the Zangezur place, connected it with the name of the patriarch Dzag, calling it Dzagedzor. Ghevond Alishan also links the explanation of the name Zangezur to the distorted form of the name Dzagedzor. According to ethnographer Yervand Lalayan, Zangezur < Dzagedzor < Tsakeri Dzor (tsak - natural hollows that were widespread in Goris).

The "scientific community" of the Azerbaijani state established in the 20th century, by distorting and falsifying historical facts and realities, attempts to present itself to the world using the history of neighboring nations. The false concepts of Western Azerbaijan and Western Zangezur, along with all the anti-Armenian actions derived from them, pursue one goal: the elimination of Armenians.
