Aliyev's regime takes revenge on Karintak

2024-04-29

On April 5, the Google Earth satellite service updated the satellite images of the Askeran and Shushi regions. The Artsakh cultural heritage monitoring website team documented that Azerbaijan wrecked to the ground the village of Karintak in the Shushi region, including its old quarters, springs, civil infrastructure, and natural environment.

Karintak village is located in the Shushi region of the Republic of Artsakh, directly beneath the vertical cliffs of Shushi city's southern part, on the left bank of the Karkar River.

In recent years, it has been repeatedly confirmed how Azerbaijan systematically destroys and appropriates Armenian historical and cultural heritage in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).

The case of Karintak stands out for its unique 'brutality,' representing a distinctive form of vandalism, and it appears to have a 'symbolic' significance.

The self-defense of Karintak is a significant event in the first stage of the first Artsakh war, during which Azerbaijani forces suffered a serious defeat. The remarkable battle of Karintak took place on January 26, 1992. Azerbaijani forces launched an attack, but they were defeated suffering dozens of casualties thanks to the resistance of the Armenian self-defense forces and the village's residents. Azerbaijani Defense Minister Tajeddin Mehdiyev came to Shushi from Baku to lead the Karintak offensive, but following the defeat, he was removed from his position.

Karintak village was occupied by Azerbaijan on November 4, 2020.
