During the anti-Armenian massacres that began in Sumgait, among the many Armenians who left Baku with their families was writer, lawyer, and human rights activist Anna Astvatsaturian Turcotte. During the forced displacement, she recorded all her experiences and eyewitness impressions in her childhood diary, which later became the memoir Nowhere: A Story of Exile.

In the conversation with the Geghard Foundation, Anna Astvatsaturian Turcotte spoke about the anti-Armenian violence that took place in Baku and Sumgait, displacement, the formation of her identity, and questions related to survival.
