Nusrat ad-Din Abu Nasr Hasan-bek (1452-1478), known in history as Uzun Hasan, was the sultan of the state created by the Turkmen Aq Qoyunlu tribes. He descended from the Bayandur tribe of the Aq Qoyunlu tribal confederation. According to Mahmud al-Kashgari's work "Diwan lughat al-Turk", "Oghuz is one of the Turkic tribes, which are the Turkmens... They are composed of 22 tribes. The third is Bayandur."
During the reign of Uzun Hasan, the Aq Qoyunlu state, which encompassed Armenia, Atropatene, Iran, Shirvan, and Mesopotamia, reached the zenith of its power.
There is no mention in any historical source that Uzun Hasan, who bore the title of Shah of Iran, was Azerbaijani. This is because the Azerbaijani nation did not exist in that period (the second half of the 15th century).
