Any support given to the Aliyev dictatorship is an endorsement of genocidal acts

2024-05-22

A few days ago, a statement was spread on Azerbaijani social platforms that several organizations participating in the G7 summit of non-governmental organizations held in Rome support Azerbaijan as the host of COP29. (The 2024 UN Climate Change Conference, better known as COP29, will be held in Baku from November 11-14). The statement was signed by 30 non-governmental organizations from 8 countries, including representatives from UNESCO.

The statement reads, “We, the undersigned civil society organizations, support the COP29 Presidency and Azerbaijan, the hosting country, as they embark on the vital mission of steering the global community towards a sustainable and resilient future...  This accomplishment showcases Azerbaijan's capacity for effective multilateral diplomacy and highlights its crucial role in shaping a sustainable future for generations to come. We believe that COP29 Azerbaijan will foster significant cooperation, inspire ambitious pledges, and navigate the world to a consensus”.

It is worth noting that on December 12, 2022, a group of Azerbaijani "environmentalists" blocked the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia, leaving approximately 120,000 Artsakh Armenians without food and basic necessities.

It is noteworthy that during the nine months of the blockade, representatives of the G7 countries, among others, repeatedly appealed to Azerbaijan to stop the groundless "eco-activism" and biological genocide in Artsakh. The US State Department, a group of congressmen, the French Foreign Ministry, and the Cyprus Foreign Ministry all called for the opening of the corridor, but Azerbaijan continued to disregard these appeals from international organizations. Therefore, the support of international institutions for Azerbaijan as the host of COP29 will contribute to the genocidal actions and intentions of the Aliyev regime.

The "Geghard" Scientific Analytical Foundation condemns the approach of these international organizations and calls for an end to double standards. Any support given to the Aliyev dictatorship, out of self-interest, equates to support for genocidal actions, anti-democratic processes, and the destabilization of the region.
